Your vertebral column is made up of series of vertebrae that are cushion by discs. If these discs rupture or damage, they can cause the vertebrae to moves from their usual position. This misalignment of the vertebrae causes severe pain in your spinal cord and areas around it like the lumbar spinal region or upper cervical region.

  • Are there any factors that would prevent the adjustment?

What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustment for Your Health?

May 27, 2021

Until now we’ve only been studying the benefits of chiropractor techniques. How they can change the lives of people with lower or upper back pain. But have you ever thought of chiropractor techniques being harmful? Do you know any side effects and adverse reactions associated with them?

Well, many of you won’t know about them. This is because no major side effect or ADR is associated with the procedure but this doesn’t mean that they are 100% safe. There are some potential risks associated with the practice. This article will help you know about the possible dangerous side of chiropractic care. So, let’s start.

Possible side effects

Here are some possible side effects associated with chiropractic care;

  1. After the chiropractic session, people report feelings of peace and relaxation. This is because their pain is gone which gives them a soothing feeling. So, some people ascertain the treatment to be sedative.
  2. Since the physical symptoms of the condition disappear, people feel that the problem has gone away for the rest of life. However, this is never the case. Healing of the bone and proper adjustment takes a little time. Therefore, you might feel different for a time but the same later.
  3. People with chronic health conditions don’t observe the results right away. This doesn’t mean that chiropractic care isn’t working for them. It is just that it will take a considerable time to show possible results. People might develop interim stress and anxiety but it isn’t because of the chiropractic care directly.

Possible reactions

People may feel pain, discomfort, and muscle soreness after the treatment. Plus, some also reported headaches, sniffles, fever, drowsiness, lethargy, and a strange uncomfortable feeling after the treatment. This reaction might be the result of the following conditions;

  • You might be undergoing detoxification or cleansing. Your body is likely to cleanse after the chiropractic adjustments. The toxins and poisons, when leaving your body, cause strange discomfort or headache. The cleansing effect also raises your flow of blood which may trigger external reactions like headaches and accelerated heart rate.
  • Your muscles might be realigning themselves. This muscle due to immobility would have grown weak and thus when put into motion suddenly, may cause discomfort. Muscle soreness is also a noticeable reaction after chiropractic techniques.
  • Your dead nerves may be coming to life again, old injuries may be healing again. Thus, pain and discomfort are justified.

Adverse Reactions

Many online blogs and websites are claiming that post-chiropractic session also report severe complications like stroke, neck pain, bleeding inside the brain, etc. However, none of them have enough evidence to support the argument.

However, it cannot be said if chiropractic healthcare may trigger such conditions. But if your chiropractor had performed the procedure carelessly then any problem can arise but it must not be blamed on the technique but the care provider.

Final verdict

Chiropractic techniques are natural and manual manipulation of the misaligned spinal vertebrae. The procedure uses no harmful chemicals and employs no dangerous postures thus can be rendered safe for practice. However, some side effects and reactions can be expected.

This is because this procedure involves manipulating the natural physiology of the bones which would definitely trigger some unwanted conditions.
